What is privately-owned subsidized housing?

Privately-owned subsidized housing is when the government gives financial help to the apartment building owner. This helps the owner offer low rent to individuals, families, seniors, and people with disabilities who need help paying for rent.

How do you find privately-owned subsidized housing?

There is an online search tool to help you find subsidized apartment buildings near you in Louisiana. To get a list of buildings, just choose:
  1. The city, county, or zip code you want to live in
  2. The apartment type: FAMILY, ELDERLY (for seniors), DISABLED (for people with disabilities), or HEALTHCARE (if you need assisted-living, usually for seniors or people with disabilities)
  3. The number of bedrooms
Click “Next” and a list of available buildings that fit your description will come up.

How do you apply?

You will need to visit the management office for the apartment building that you are interested in.
